Germany announced plans to replace ambassador to Russia
Germany plans to replace Alexander Lambsdorff as ambassador to Russia, and the current German ambassador to Mexico, Clemens von Goetze, may succeed him in Moscow. This was reported on February 10 by the German magazine Der Spiegel, citing sources in the German government.
According to the publication, Lambsdorff will move to Tel Aviv, where he will take up a key position, replacing Ambassador Steffen Seibert, who is retiring on seniority.
It is specified that during the upcoming summer rotation of Germany, seven ambassadors will be reassigned, including in Moscow, Tel Aviv, Beijing and Delhi.
"At the suggestion of German Foreign Minister Johan Vadefuhl, the next rotation has been agreed in the ruling coalition and the government. The list of positions in the B9 category should be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday," the publication says.
On January 22, the German Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Berlin and informed him that the deputy military attache of the Russian Embassy in Berlin needed to leave the country immediately. It was clarified that he was ordered to leave the country within 72 hours. According to diplomats, he allegedly works for one of the Russian special services.
