Almost 4.5 thousand elevators were replaced in Moscow in 2025 under the overhaul program.

In 2025, almost 4,500 elevators in apartment buildings were replaced in Moscow as part of the regional capital repair program. This was announced on Tuesday, February 10, by the Deputy mayor of the capital for Housing and Communal Services and landscaping, Peter Biryukov.

He noted that the elevator renovation program was approved on behalf of the Mayor of Moscow, and over the entire period of its implementation, more than 52.3 thousand elevators have been replaced in residential buildings. Last year alone, he said, almost 4,500 new lifts were installed, according to the Moscow City News agency.

Biryukov explained that since 2018, elevators in buildings on the account of a regional operator are changed strictly at the end of their 25-year service life — without extending their operation. He added that as part of the program, the old equipment will be dismantled, and new elevators will be installed in stages, if there are several in the entrance, in order to minimize inconvenience to residents. According to him, modern domestic lifts are used that fully meet the requirements of safety and comfort, writes "Moscow 24".

The Deputy Mayor also stressed that compliance with the operating time of elevators is under special control, since this is a high-risk equipment that requires regular inspections and timely replacement.
