"The Russian side expressed its readiness to continue to assist efforts to consolidate the positions of leading Palestinian political forces and movements on the platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

In addition, the deputy head of the Russian ministry reiterated Moscow's support for the idea of creating an independent Palestinian state that would exist "in peace and security with Israel."
