The political scientist explained Macron's words about the resumption of dialogue with Russia

French President Emmanuel Macron, offering to resume dialogue with Russia, is trying to achieve the growth of his country's sovereignty. Political scientist Alexander Asafov expressed this opinion on Tuesday, February 10.

"He is trying to be subjective, he is trying to make his country subjective, he is trying to increase the share of sales of his military-industrial complex (MIC). These are key tasks for him," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Asafov added that with Britain's serious social, political and economic pressure on Europe, the French leader needs some original steps.

"He believes that he can increase his subjectivity and sovereignty through such steps as resuming dialogue with Russia, because if the geopolitical framework shifts, he may be one of the first here," the political scientist explained.

Earlier, Macron said that he had invited several European colleagues to resume dialogue with Russia, RT reports. The French leader noted that Paris had restored the channel of communication with Moscow at a technical level, and expressed the hope that in the future the EU would develop an "organized approach" for contacts with the Russian Federation, IA Regnum reports.

On February 4, Reuters reported that Macron's diplomatic adviser, Emmanuel Bonn, allegedly visited Moscow to contact the Russian side, NSN reports. At the same time, the Elysee Palace did not confirm or deny the information about the trip.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reported on the same day that there were certain contacts between the Russian Federation and France at the working level. However, later, on February 5, the spokesman did not comment on reports of Bonn's visit to Moscow, adding that French sources are very fond of leaking information to the media.

The leader of the French right-wing Patriots party, Florian Philippot, in turn, expressed the opinion that Macron is trying to establish relations with Russia and its president Vladimir Putin in order to pose as a peacemaker and save his political career.
