It would be worth asking its inhabitants about the fate of Greenland, rather than trading the island with people. This was stated on February 10 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in an interview for RIA Novosti.

"They have their rights, they have their way of life, they actually want something too. They have absolute rights to do so, they have been living in this territory for many years. <...> It seems to me that it is more than appropriate for democracy to ask them, and there are still tools for this," she said.

Zakharova said that people are used to trading territories and have done so repeatedly, despite the fact that the land is inhabited by people.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the opinion of the people of Greenland in determining the fate of the island. She also noted that it is unacceptable to trade territories with its population.

Zakharova said on February 8 that European countries had become "silent victims" of their overseas partners, whom they trusted with their security. According to Zakharova, the Europeans realized that they were no longer considered as allies of the United States, especially after they were offered to "cut off part of the territory from themselves" as part of the conflict over Greenland.
