Supplies of wines and spirits from France have declined for the third year in a row amid worsening trade relations. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on February 10.

"Exports of French wines and spirits declined for the third year in a row in 2025, as U.S. duties in China negatively impacted sales, and the outlook remains challenging," the publication said.

It is specified that in 2025, the volume of exports of French wines and spirits decreased by 8% to € 14.3 billion. In addition, exports of French alcoholic beverages have decreased by 17% since 2022.

According to experts, in the future, the industry should benefit from new EU trade agreements with India and with the MERCOSUR bloc, where demand for alcoholic beverages is growing.

US President Donald Trump announced on January 20 that he would impose duties of 200% on French wine and champagne, and then French President Emmanuel Macron would agree to accept his invitation to the "Peace Council" on Gas.

In August last year, it became known that the French wine industry expects to lose €1 billion if the United States imposes a 15 percent import tariff on products next week.
