A resident of Naro-Fominsk near Moscow drank tea with mercury from a thermometer that burst in her daughter's hands and was hospitalized. In an interview with Izvestia on February 10, she denied reports that the girl had intentionally mixed heavy metal into her drink.

She explained that on the day of the incident, her daughter was shaking the thermometer to take her temperature, but then discovered that the device had cracked.

"We disposed of the thermometer according to all the rules, everything is as it should be. No one had any idea that a drop had gone into my tea. <...> I sat down to drink from a cup, and I felt a speck in my mouth. I spat it out, and only then realized that it was a piece of mercury," the woman said.

The victim gave herself first aid and called a medical team. At the hospital, they put ivs on her, took an X-ray and fluorography.

"In three days, I had a full examination from head to toe. Today, there was an additional ultrasound scan of all the viscera to see if there were any changes," she added.

The woman stressed that she feels well, and her health is not in danger.

On February 11 last year, it became known about the poisoning of two people with mercury pastries in a Moscow cafe. They sought medical help, and the doctors who arrived on the spot performed gastric lavage on the victims. Later, the Moscow Department of Rospotrebnadzor launched an epidemiological investigation.

The next day, the agency temporarily suspended the operation of the Melnitsa bakery on Simferopol Boulevard, where the poisoned bought the products. Investigators found that the Muscovite, feeling jealous, decided to get rid of his rival. It was clarified that during the investigation he put forward contradictory versions, trying to present the incident as an accident.
