The number of British migrants has reached a record during Starmer's premiership
Since the beginning of the reign of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, 65,922 migrants have arrived in the UK by boat across the English Channel, which broke the record of his predecessor Boris Johnson and became the highest figure among all the country's prime ministers. This was reported on February 10 by the British newspaper The Standard.
According to the publication, 65,922 people arrived across the English Channel from July 5, 2024 to February 10, 2026. The last group of 219 illegal immigrants reached Britain on Sunday. For comparison, during the entire term of Johnson's premiership — from July 24, 2019 to September 6, 2022 — 65,811 migrants crossed the English Channel.
It is noted that illegal migrants are looking for any opportunity to get to the UK and obtain refugee status, which opens up access to financial benefits and social programs. In 2025, the country received more than 41,000 illegal immigrants, which was the second highest figure after the record of 2022, when more than 45.7 thousand people reached the British shores.
The UK authorities spend several million pounds a day to accommodate asylum seekers in hotels.
On January 22, Germany announced the creation of hubs outside the EU for the deportation of migrants. The hubs are aimed at speeding up deportations. It was noted that their creation would be coordinated in more detail by the end of 2026.
