- Reuters reported on the Bundeswehr's intention to purchase kamikaze drones for €536 million.
The German Armed Forces plan to purchase thousands of kamikaze drones worth €536 million from two German defense companies Helsing and Stark Defense in a short time. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on February 10.
"The contracts with the two companies are designed for seven years. The delivery of the first batch is scheduled for early 2027," the publication says.
The publication writes that Germany currently has only reconnaissance drones. Contracts for the supply of attack UAVs will be concluded with German manufacturers Helsing and Stark Defense. The publication also clarifies that the documents sent to the Bundestag budget office for consideration refer to guided weapons launched without a target.
It is specified that we are talking about the Virtus models from Stark Industries and the HX-2 from Helsing. The order is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The Bundeswehr brigade located in Lithuania is going to be equipped with drones to increase the combat capability of the unit.
Earlier, on February 6, it was reported that Germany's decision to deploy about 5,000 of its soldiers and 105 tanks to Lithuania's southeastern border was related to part of NATO's plan for a potential conflict with Moscow called OPLAN DEU. The first stage of the planned implementation began in the fall of 2024. At that time, the first batch of 250 German soldiers was sent to Vilnius.
