The Canadian authorities did not dispose of the remaining Browning Hi-Power pistols from the Second World War, as they are considering the possibility of transferring them to Ukraine. This was reported on February 9 by the Ottawa Citizen newspaper.

According to the publication, in 2022, the Canadian authorities decided to dispose of almost 11 thousand obsolete pistols that were in storage. However, two years later, it was decided to keep about 10,5 thousand weapons with a possible subsequent shipment to Ukraine.

At the same time, deliveries have not yet begun, as Ottawa is awaiting a response from Kiev on whether such weapons are in demand by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The publication notes that the Canadian side still has not received official confirmation of the need for pistols. Browning Hi-Power was developed in 1935, and more than 1 million copies have been produced since its production.

After 2022, the Canadian authorities began to dispose of obsolete small arms while purchasing new models for the armed forces. The Canadian Ministry of Defense stated that only a few hundred units would be preserved for transfer to museums.

Since February 2022, Canada has provided military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of more than 4.5 billion Canadian dollars (about $ 3.2 billion). In addition, Ottawa participates in the American PURL arms procurement program for Ukraine.

On February 8, France and Ukraine agreed to cooperate in the development and implementation of innovative defense solutions, including unmanned aerial vehicles and data processing systems.
