- The prisoner spoke about the intimidation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants to prevent their surrender.
The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) intimidated the militants with the alleged horrors of captivity so that they would not surrender. The captured militant Dmitry Kolomoisky told about it on February 10.
"We were scared by all sorts of horrors [about allegedly mistreating prisoners of war], various rumors. <...> They said not to surrender. It's better to explode with a grenade than to surrender," said the prisoner.
Kolomoisky was forcibly mobilized by the military commissars in May 2025, when he went out to the store. He surrendered to the soldiers of the North group of forces in the Khatna sector of the front.
"They threw a big grenade, it went off, and we immediately ran out shouting, "We surrender! Our own, we surrender," said the militant.
Kolomoisky noted that the Russian soldiers treated the prisoners with cigarettes, as well as gave them drinks and food.
"It turns out that everything we were told is not the case. They reacted normally," concluded Kolomoisky.
Igor Kimakovsky, an adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), said on February 2 that Ukrainian militants were destroying their own wounded so that they could not surrender. According to him, in these procedures, the militants resort to firing fragmentation grenade launchers.
