The retaliatory measures that Russia has resorted to in response to the sanctions imposed on it by Japan have provided the island state with big problems. This was reported on February 9 by the Chinese newspaper Baijiahao.

"The Japanese government supported the West and imposed restrictions against Russia. Since then, the Kremlin has launched a series of retaliatory measures, <...> and they have worked <...> brilliantly," the ABN24 news agency quotes the content of the material.

It is noted that the Russian side has restricted Japanese fishermen's access to the waters adjacent to the Kuril Islands, and has also increased inspections of vessels. This, as emphasized in the text, resulted in heavy losses for fishing companies based in Hokkaido.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 30 that Moscow would take into account the unfriendly statements of the Japanese authorities when shaping its policy towards Japan. She said that statements by Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, who called support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia the priorities of Tokyo's foreign policy, confirm the "frankly unfriendly nature" of Japanese policy towards Russia.
