The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed four militants of the Palestinian Hamas movement in the southern Gaza Strip in Rafah after they emerged from an underground tunnel and opened fire on soldiers. This was reported on February 9 by Reuters with reference to the IDF General Staff.

The attack on Israeli soldiers is a violation of the U.S.—brokered cease-fire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas, which entered into force in the Gaza Strip in October 2025, and Israel views this event with "extreme seriousness," the publication says.

In addition, IDF soldiers shot dead a farmer in Deir al-Balah, in the central part of the Palestinian enclave. The agency emphasizes that the ceasefire has been repeatedly violated, and both sides have exchanged mutual accusations and strikes on each other's territory, while Washington is putting pressure on them to move on to the next stages of a ceasefire agreement designed to finally end the conflict.

On February 4, 18 people were reported killed in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said the strikes were carried out after a gunman opened fire on IDF soldiers.
