The construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant opens the way for Hungarian companies to enter the global nuclear market. This was announced on February 9 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"It is very important that the investment in Paks opens the way for Hungarian companies to enter the global nuclear market. For example, there is a unique Hungarian cooling technology, it is the only one of its kind in the world, and now it will also be used in construction carried out by Rosatom in other parts of the world," Szijjarto said.

According to the diplomat, the construction of the nuclear power plant is "an exemplary example of East-West cooperation." He clarified that the Russian general contractor is working together with German and French subcontractors, which gives "little hope" for a return to normality.

"Then they won't try to divide the world into blocks, and such normal global cooperation will arise again," Szijjarto explained.

On September 15, 2025, the MTI agency reported that Hungary and Russia agreed on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna to accelerate investments in the construction of the Paks-2 NPP. It was noted that new NPP power units could be put into operation by the beginning of the next decade.

Szijjarto said on December 9 of the same year that there would be no problems with the implementation of the Paks-2 NPP project. He noted that Hungary continues to accelerate the construction of the new Paks-2 nuclear power plant with the participation of the Russian corporation Rosatom, despite attempts to disrupt the project.

On February 5, the press service of the Rosatom State Corporation announced the pouring ceremony of the "first concrete" for two new units of the Paks NPP. It was emphasized that the event was attended by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation.
