AvtoVAZ has welded more than 200 Lada Azimut crossover bodies
The AvtoVAZ plant in Tolyatti is focused on preparing for the production of the Lada Azimut crossover. To date, the company has already welded 217 bodies of a promising model in a test mode. The press service of AvtoVAZ announced this on February 9 in its Telegram channel.
During his scheduled visit, Maxim Sokolov, President of the automobile company, visited the welding plant, the assembly complex, as well as the Lada Tool subsidiary. As Igor Shishkin, project manager of the body welding department, noted in a conversation with Sokolov, the geometry level of Lada Azimut bodies is striving for the target. The start of mass production of the Lada Azimut model, the brand's first crossover, is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, and sales are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter.
AvtoVAZ also said that an innovative robotic instrument panel installation system has been put into operation at the Tolyatti plant, which performs operations on a moving conveyor. The robot arm, mounted on a movable platform, moves synchronously with the body of the machine, which is moving along the conveyor. The anti-rollback system stabilizes the body on the suspension relative to the robot for high accuracy. It is stated that the equipment makes it possible to improve the quality of car assembly.
As for the Lada Tool production, in 2024-2025, due to the allocation of serious investments, 25 units of new equipment were installed there and 14 units of existing ones were modernized. In the next five years, it is planned to purchase 14 new machines and modernize the same number of machines.
Earlier, on February 5, it was reported that the number of robots involved in the production of cars at the AvtoVAZ plant in Tolyatti reached about 1.3 thousand units. In total, 1.6 thousand robots are involved in AvtoVAZ enterprises.
