Relapses of violence in the Gaza Strip persisted after the adoption of the peace plan by US President Donald Trump, while there is no clarity about its other points. This was announced on February 9 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Relapses of violence [in the Gaza Strip] persist, and there is no clarity at all about other components of this plan, including the complete withdrawal of Israeli IDF troops," Lavrov said at the XV Middle East Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

He noted that Russia initially supported the plan, as it was aimed at ending violence, as well as solving the problems of hostages and the exchange of bodies of the dead. At the same time, he called the plan itself a "positive development."

Lavrov also said that in order to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, the Trump Peace Council must take into account its root causes. He stressed that the opinion of Israel should be taken into account, as it is necessary to ensure the security of the two states.

"I would really like this collegial body, which was created on the initiative of President Trump, to really address the underlying causes of the conflict," the minister said.

Earlier, on January 22, Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said that the Palestinian side accuses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately delaying the opening of the Rafah checkpoint and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
