Russian skier Savely Korostelev, during his performance at the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy (OI-2026) on February 9, said that he was taking precautions to avoid the risk of doping, and drinks water exclusively from bottles that he opens himself.

"I don't drink from an open bottle, of course," Korostelev emphasized.

On Sunday, after completing the skiathlon, the 22-year-old skier refused to drink from an already open bottle brought to him by a volunteer, despite being very thirsty.

Korostelev noted that following strict precautions is a necessary part of preparing and competing at competitions of this level.

On February 8, French skier Mathis Delauge took a shortcut during the skiathlon at the OI-2026 and beat Russian skier Savely Korostelev. The athlete received a yellow card from the judges for the violation. Delozh took the second place in the end.

Korostelev took the fourth place in the skiathlon at the OI-2026. The first was Norwegian Johannes Klebo, who scored 46 minutes and 11 seconds.
