On February 9, international security expert Mark Episkopos noted the importance of the statement by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen about Ukraine.

Earlier, the Finnish authorities did not like the wording used by American officials on security guarantees for Ukraine, "similar to Article 5" of the NATO Charter. According to the Politico newspaper, this issue was discussed at a meeting between Valtonen and American lawmakers. She warned that this could lead to a confusion of NATO guarantees with bilateral commitments to Kiev.
