Politico reported on Kiev's plans to request Patriot and NASAMS from the EU
On February 11, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov will take part in the meeting of the Council of the European Union (EU) on Foreign Affairs, which will be held on Wednesday in Brussels. At the meeting, he intends to seek supplies from EU countries of additional air defense systems, including Patriot and NASAMS complexes. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on February 9.
"The Minister of Defense of Ukraine should attend the meeting and inform the heads of the defense departments of the bloc about the "most pressing" needs of his country," Politico quoted the source as saying.
According to the newspaper, a meeting of the heads of defense departments of the EU countries is expected in Brussels.
Politico notes that Fedorov, in particular, will solicit additional air defense systems, including Patriot and NASAMS, which have long been among Kiev's priority requests. In addition, according to the newspaper, the meeting is planned to discuss issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of defense innovations.
On February 4, the EU agreed on a package of laws for a loan of €90 billion to Ukraine. It was noted that all defense products should, in principle, be purchased only from companies in the EU, Ukraine or the EEA-EFTA countries.
