An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, according to the Kamchatka branch of the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the ministry, the earthquake occurred at 17:09 local time (8:09 Moscow time). The epicenter of the quake was located 232 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the center was located at a depth of 40.5 kilometers. Scientists do not report on the intensity of the earthquake.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred on Tuesday, January 27, in the Pacific Ocean near the Northern Kuril Islands. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station reported that the seismic event was located at a depth of 23 km.
