- The ruling Party of Japan won more than two thirds of the seats following the election results.
Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of the current Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has won the elections to the lower house of parliament and has shown the best result in its history. This was reported on February 8 by the NHK television and radio company.
"The LDP won 316 seats, which is more than two—thirds of the total number of seats in the House of Representatives," the publication says.
This allowed the party to gain control of the lower house of the Japanese parliament. It is noted that this is the first time since the end of World War II when one political force wins more than two thirds of the seats in the House of Representatives.
The victory of the ruling coalition in the elections was announced on February 8.
On January 23, Takaichi announced that elections to the lower house of parliament would be held on February 8. The new composition of the House of Representatives will determine budget priorities, form the government and influence key legislative initiatives.
