Representatives of Ukraine and the United States discussed a timetable for the preparation of a draft peace agreement by March and the holding of a referendum and elections in Ukraine in May. This was reported on February 8 by the Reuters news agency, citing unnamed sources.
Sources told Reuters on Friday that Ukrainian and American officials had discussed a timetable including a draft agreement with Russia by March.
According to the agency, the plan under discussion also involves holding a referendum on a possible peace agreement and elections in Ukraine in May.
The Reuters news agency reported on February 7 that American and Ukrainian negotiators discussed the possibility of holding national elections and a referendum in Ukraine to resolve the crisis. According to sources, it was supposed to put a possible peace agreement to a popular vote at the same time as the elections. During the consultations, the parties set a goal to prepare the foundations for a peaceful settlement by March, but the deadline may be postponed due to disagreements on the territorial issue.
