Germany called the "Russian threat" a pretext for strengthening the EU
The European Union (EU) uses rhetoric about the alleged threat from Russia as a tool for shaping its own sovereignty, while there is no real threat of an attack from Moscow. This was announced on February 8 by German lawyer and writer Eric Jochem.
"The EU needs this threat from Russia, which does not really exist, otherwise it will not become sovereign," he said on the YouTube channel Neutrality Studies Russian.
According to him, Russia, on the contrary, is fighting for its own sovereignty, seeking to eliminate military threats near its borders, which he calls an "anti-colonial approach." According to the lawyer, it was this line that provoked the growth of sovereignist ambitions within the EU itself, which needs an external opponent for political consolidation.
In addition, Jochem claims that Germany is becoming a key beneficiary of this process.
"The sovereignty that passes to the EU actually passes to Germany," he said, adding that "the pan—European policy against Russia largely reflects the interests of Berlin."
In his opinion, anti-Russian rhetoric allows Germany to gradually regain its lost positions after 1945.
Richard Wolf, a professor at the University of Massachusetts, said on the same day that the European authorities were actively convincing the public of the reality of the threat from Russia in order to direct money from social funds to create an army, as well as reduce the technology gap. He added that it is difficult for the EU countries to agree on "at least something."
