- Political scientist Leroy admitted the connection of the attempted assassination of General Alekseev with the CIA and MI6
The attempted assassination of Russian Defense Ministry Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev leads to the Kiev regime and may have coordination with Western intelligence agencies. This was stated on February 8 by French political scientist Emmanuel Leroy in an interview with Izvestia.
"All the clandestine operations, as well as terrorist actions that we have observed over the past years, are carried out in close coordination between the [Central Intelligence Agency] of the CIA, [the British Secret Intelligence Service] MI6 and the Ukrainian special services — the [Security Service of Ukraine] SBU or the [Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine] GUR," — he noted.
Ukraine did not comment on the incident because the operation failed, and the administration of American President Donald Trump probably did not give it the green light, the expert explained. At the same time, Leroy does not exclude that individual elements of the CIA could act without the consent of the US leadership.
"In order not to annoy Mr. Trump, the Kiev authorities preferred to take a wait—and-see attitude and not take responsibility," the political scientist added.
The analyst points to a high degree of international coordination and the possible involvement of British and American intelligence agencies in organizing the attempted attack.
On February 6, an unknown man fired several shots at Alekseev, after which he fled the scene. The victim was taken to one of the city hospitals. Later, on February 7, Alekseev regained consciousness after the assassination attempt.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident. The Moscow Prosecutor's Office took control of the investigation of the case. The criminal case is being investigated under articles on attempted murder and illegal trafficking of firearms. Later, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia reported that an article about an attempt on the life of a serviceman had been added to the case.
On Sunday, February 8, it became known about the arrest of the perpetrator of the assassination attempt and his accomplice. Another accomplice is Zinaida Serebritskaya, born in 1971. She managed to leave for Ukraine. The FSB also distributed video surveillance footage from the scene of the attack on Alekseev. They show how the killer enters the residential complex, and after the attack throws the gun into a snowdrift. He then leaves the crime scene on public transport.
