- US authorities have detained 54 people at protests outside a government building in Minnesota.
In the American city of St. Paul, Minnesota, law enforcement agencies detained 54 people during a protest. This was reported on February 8 by KSTP TV channel with reference to the sheriff's office.
"The protest at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal building in St. Paul was declared an illegal gathering after a sheriff's deputy was reportedly hit on the head with ice <...> A total of 54 people were detained," the TV channel informs.
It is noted that because of these actions, the sheriff's office turned to other agencies for help. The protesters were ordered to disperse under threat of arrest.
The article clarified that protests outside this building, where events against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids are often held, have become more frequent since the start of Operation Metro Surge in January.
CNN reported on January 31 that protests by U.S. residents against the activities of ICE have spread to all corners of the country. It was noted that protests in Minnesota have been going on for the second week due to the murders of two residents by federal agents.
A day earlier, an ICE Out protest was held in Los Angeles, which means "The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is out," during which activists clashed with police.
