Monkey pox can lead to severe pneumonia and encephalitis. This was announced on February 8 by Galina Companets, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Fundamental Medicine at the School of Medicine and Life Sciences of the Far Eastern Federal University.

According to her, the consequences of the disease depend on the patient's immune system, and there is no specific vaccination against the virus.

"In this case, the virus can be severe, it can also cause severe pneumonia, encephalitis, fatal cases are not excluded. The question is what kind of immune system the patient has, because vaccination against this virus is not carried out, the treatment is quite complicated, and only in severe forms a broad—spectrum antiviral drug is used," said Companets RIA Novosti.

The specialist added that the complications of this infection can be serious.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that a rabies quarantine was introduced on Molodezhnaya Street in the Moscow region of Reutov. According to Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow Region, visits and holding of public events, as well as the treatment of sick animals, are limited on the territory.
