The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is discussing Russia's return to international competition. This was reported on February 7 by The New York Times with reference to the decisions taken at the IOC session in Milan.

According to the newspaper, the delegates expressed their willingness to see Russian athletes in key competitions. IOC President Kirsty Coventry said that sport should remain a neutral platform, although she did not mention Russia directly.

The head of the International Ski Federation, Johan Elias, called for the development of clearer principles, noting that singling out Russia against the background of other global conflicts looks unfair.

The publication notes that it indicates that the return process will be difficult. To do this, the IOC must lift the suspension from the Russian Olympic Committee, and international sports federations will require separate votes for each sport.

On February 2, President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino announced the need to consider lifting the ban on Russian teams. He added that the opportunity for Russian boys and girls to play football in other parts of Europe would be beneficial.
