The Burshtyn thermal power plant (TPP) in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine has completely stopped working due to serious damage after the explosions. This was announced on February 7 by the mayor of Burshtyn, Vasily Andrieshin.

"The damage is very serious, the station is now at zero. No one knows what will happen next, because we are just starting to sort out the rubble. However, we see that we have no heat, we have no water," he said in a video posted on Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

On the same day, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced that the blocks of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP) were unloaded due to damage to the Burshtyn and Dobrotvorskaya thermal power plants (TPP). According to the minister, the energy grid operator Ukrenergo has requested emergency assistance from Poland.

Earlier that day, Ukrenergo announced that emergency power outages had been introduced in the vast majority of Ukrainian territories. The measures will be lifted after the situation in the energy system stabilizes.

On January 30, Sergei Yevtushok, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Batkivshchyna party, allowed the forced evacuation of Kiev residents due to the critical situation in the energy sector. He noted that there are not enough places in Ukraine where evacuees could be accommodated for the resettlement of Kiev residents.
