The National Financial Prosecutor's Office in France has launched an investigation into former Culture Minister Jacques Lang and his daughter Caroline in connection with a criminal money laundering case after the press revealed the family's ties to American financier Jeffrey Epstein. The French newspaper Le Figaro wrote about this on February 7.

"The National Financial Prosecutor's Office has launched a preliminary investigation <...> into the case of 'laundering funds obtained as a result of tax fraud,'" the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the names of 86-year-old Lang and his daughter appear in the documents on the Epstein case 673 times. However, the man claims that neither he nor his relative knew about the financier's criminal activities.

The country's prosecutor's office, in particular, was interested in media reports about an offshore company in the Virgin Islands, which was founded by Caroline Lang and Epstein in 2016. The name of the ex-minister was listed among the owners of the organization.

As for the daughter of the former official, she is mentioned in Epstein's will, who wanted to pay her $5 million, the newspaper added.

On the same day, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway officially apologized to the King and Queen of the country for her ties with Epstein. She expressed regret for the situation she had put the royal family in.

On the same day, it became known that the Norwegian police began checking former Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland in the Epstein case. No specific charges have been filed against Jagland yet. The investigation plans to examine his receipt of gifts, as well as compensation for trips and loans related to his previous positions.
