The countries of the European Union (EU) (EU) have no consolidated intention of supporting Russia's resolution against the glorification of Nazism at the United Nations (UN). This was announced on February 7 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Previously, most Western countries, primarily members of the European Union, refrained from adopting the mentioned initiative. For the past four years, Europeans have been voting against the Russian document in a consolidated manner," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Such dramatic changes seem unexpected only at first glance, since the West has always disliked the Russian Federation's resolution, the diplomat noted. According to her, the situation that developed after February 2022 worked as a litmus test, which exposed the true attitude of the EU towards this document.

"However, they used to try to cover up their true attitude towards the resolution with demagoguery and politicking," Zakharova added.

In November 2025, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly approved a resolution submitted by Russia on combating the glorification of Nazism and modern forms of racial discrimination. The document was supported by 114 states, while 52 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan and Ukraine, voted against. Another 12 delegations abstained.

Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, said at the same time that Russia would not allow the USSR's key role in defeating Nazi Germany to be questioned.
