Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, looked a little tired on the podium, and at one point even closed her eyes and dozed off. Video footage from the stands of the San Siro Stadium in Milan on February 7 was immediately discussed by netizens.

The head of government first watched the ceremony with a slightly confused look, and then tilted her head to the side and fell asleep. Users criticized Meloni in the comments to the screenshot from the broadcast, noting that it was not very appropriate at an important event.

"She had a lot of fun," wrote one of the users of the social network X (ex. Twitter), transmits "Газета.Ru ".

Another commentator pointed out that for him, Meloni's sleeping became one of the most unpleasant moments of the ceremony, along with the comments of the presenters of the RAI1 TV channel.

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games officially started in Milan, Italy, on February 6, when the opening ceremony took place. The competition will be held until February 22. 13 athletes from Russia will participate in the Olympics this year. However, they were not allowed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to participate in the opening ceremony.
