Musicologist, music historian and music critic Joseph Raiskin has died at the age of 90. This was announced on February 7 by the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg.
"It is with deep regret that we inform you that on February 7, 2026, Joseph Genrikhovich Raiskin died at the age of 91," the message on the Vkontakte social network says.
A physicist by education, Raiskin combined scientific work with a deep passion for music all his life. He graduated from the Conservatory with a diploma in the Myaskovsky Quartets, and was an active author whose articles, radio broadcasts, and books, including "Notes of a Philharmonic" and "Symphonies of a Common Destiny," have become an important part of the musical chronicle of St. Petersburg, the Mariinsky Theater noted.
Raiskin was the editor-in-chief of the Mariinsky Theatre newspaper, a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Composers and a recipient of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree. Information about the date and place of the farewell will be announced later.
