Peskov opposed the mandatory dress code in theaters
It is wrong to impose a dress code for visiting theaters, culture needs to be developed. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, told reporters on February 6.
Commenting on the initiative to regulate the appearance of the audience, Peskov agreed that the requirements for clothing in the theater are important, but emphasized a different approach.
"But I think it's wrong to instill culture, it needs to be developed, it needs to be done in such a way that people are ashamed to come indecently dressed to the theater," he said.
According to the Kremlin representative, the theater must maintain a special status.
"The theater should still be a temple of culture," Peskov said.
People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Tsiskaridze announced on February 5 that he considers it necessary to introduce a dress code for theater visitors. He noted that coming to cultural institutions in flip-flops or shorts is unacceptable and disrespectful. In his opinion, the rules for the appearance of spectators should be regulated at the state level, by analogy with the requirements for visiting temples.
