Military expert, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk described on Friday, February 6, the main difficulties faced by the military in winter.

He noted that people need additional insulation in winter, and this increases their size, and as a result makes it difficult to disguise and move. In addition, the military becomes a convenient target for a sniper, he said.

It is also necessary to prepare engineering weapons and heating points for winter, the expert added.

"This is the installation of heating devices. If we install, say, wood-burning stoves, this demonstrates to the enemy the presence of dugouts and shelters due to smoke gaps. It is necessary to install some kind of smoke—absorbing devices so that the enemy cannot strike there," the military said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

In addition, winter is the most difficult conditions for machinery due to the cooling of technical fluids and petroleum products. He said that the Russian army uses special Arctic fuel in winter that does not freeze, special lubricants for artillery, for small arms, for tank cannons, as well as for running gear, tracks and wheels.

"This is a specialized set of technical means that increases the resistance of our equipment to frost. There were cases when Kiev's Western curators supplied tanks, including Abrams, which froze, could not move, shoot and turned into a stationary target," he noted.

The New York Times (NYT) newspaper reported on January 26 that adverse weather conditions complicate the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the line of combat contact, RT reports.

The publication writes that with the onset of cold weather, Ukrainian units are faced with a reduction in the effectiveness of military equipment, primarily unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) wrote on January 13 that the increased attacks by Russian troops on infrastructure and weather conditions have put Ukraine in the most difficult situation since the beginning of the special military operation (SVO), IA Regnum reports.
