The UK notes the need to preserve the main provisions of the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START Treaty). This was announced on February 6 by Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin.

According to the diplomat, the issue of contract expiration is important in the UK.

"Serious analytical developments are being expressed that the central provisions [of the START Treaty] must be preserved, and that one way or another we will have to continue working," Kelin said on the Rossiya 24 channel.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced Russia's readiness to discuss security issues with the United States. He noted that Moscow is ready for any development of events after the expiration of the START Treaty and stressed that now there is a vacuum in this matter.

On February 5, American leader Donald Trump supported the development of a new, improved strategic arms agreement instead of the START Treaty. According to him, the new agreement should be improved and modernized.

On February 4, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the United States had not given an official response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for states to voluntarily comply with the START Treaty restrictions for at least a year after the termination of the agreement.
