The United States will stop blocking the allocation of humanitarian aid to the DPRK through the United Nations (UN), but does not consider this a gesture of goodwill. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote about this on February 6, citing sources.

According to them, the United States intends to lift the blockages from all exceptions to UN sanctions against Pyongyang, which should make it possible to supply international aid to the country.

According to the South Korean official, such a step could be interpreted as a gesture of goodwill on the part of the United States, which could become a starting point for resuming cooperation with Pyongyang.

However, the American source explained that the lifting of restrictions on aid supplies was not intended by Washington as such a gesture. With its decision, the White House administration only wants to complete the verification process of aid delivery mechanisms, which actually blocked supplies.

On the same day, the Yonhap news agency reported that South Korea or the United States could take a step in the coming days that would be regarded as a "goodwill gesture" towards the DPRK. It is clarified that such statements were made against the background of speculation about possible plans by US President Donald Trump to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his visit to China in April.

Last October, Trump visited the Republic of Korea, where he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. At a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, the American leader promised to end the conflict between North Korea and South Korea.
