Russian Ambassador Kelin announced Ukraine's attempts to deploy NATO troops
Despite the obvious setbacks on the battlefield, Kiev continues to promote its own settlement model, insisting on the deployment of foreign military contingents on the territory of Ukraine. This was stated on February 6 by Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Although Kiev is clearly losing, it is trying to interpret its model by promoting the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine," the diplomat said.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities are trying to impose on Western partners a scenario involving the direct military presence of foreign states, which only exacerbates the situation and increases the risks of further escalation.
Kelin stressed that such initiatives indicate Kiev's unwillingness to look for real ways to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said on February 4 that the deployment of troops of the "coalition of the willing" in Ukraine after a possible peace agreement was unacceptable to Russia. She also noted that the "unrestrained expansion" of NATO to the east, including Ukraine, is one of the main causes of the current conflict.
