In recent years, approaches to cancer treatment have changed dramatically, making cancer an increasingly controlled condition. Olga Kuptsova, an oncological insurance expert at Rosgosstrakh, told Izvestia about this on February 8, explaining how modern therapies increase the chances of remission.

"Today, doctors take into account not only the localization of the tumor, but also its molecular and genetic features, which makes it possible to make treatment more accurate and gentle. There are two main directions: targeted therapy, which targets tumor cells with certain mutations, and immunotherapy, which activates the body's own immune system to fight the disease," Kuptsova noted.

Surgery has also evolved significantly. Minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic and robotic surgeries are increasingly being used. They are less traumatic and shorten the recovery time. In parallel, promising areas such as oncolytic viruses and genetic therapy are being developed, which are at the stage of clinical research.

Kuptsova called early diagnosis an important condition for success.

"The share of early-stage cancer detection in Russia has reached 61.5%. In recent years, the use of antitumor drugs in hospitals has increased by 70%," the expert cited the data.

However, she stressed that the success of treatment depends not only on medical technology, but also on the support of the whole body. Physical activity, proper nutrition and psychological involvement of the patient become an important part of therapy.

Oncologist, PhD Evgeny Cheremushkin said on January 20 that the risk of developing cancer increases significantly from regular consumption of alcoholic beverages. The expert explained that when drinking alcohol, the pancreas and stomach are primarily affected, since alcohol actually causes burns to these organs. According to him, damage to the mucous membrane leads to the development of chronic inflammatory processes: the gastrointestinal tract reacts to irritation by increased production of secretions, including bile.
