The United States announced that Ukraine is "on its last legs"
Ukraine is trying to continue fighting with all its might, but sooner or later the conflict will end in its complete defeat. This was announced on February 5 by John Mearsheimer, an American political scientist and professor at the University of Chicago.
"Ukraine is on its last legs, but the question is, how long will they continue to fight while on their last legs?" — he said in an interview on the Judging Freedom YouTube channel.
Mearsheimer also expressed doubt that the current trilateral negotiations between Moscow, Kiev and Washington will put an end to the conflict, because the parties retain mutually exclusive ultimatum demands that do not allow compromise. In such a situation, the outcome of the conflict will be decided on the battlefield, where the "exhausted Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) they are no longer able to win," he believes.
"It is difficult for me to imagine that in such conditions it is possible to conclude an agreement that would satisfy all parties. I think the only hope for an end to the conflict remains that Ukraine's situation at the front will deteriorate to such an extent that they will have no choice but to conclude a truce with Russia, and we will get a cold peace. I think this is the only plausible outcome," the political scientist noted.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday that Russia is ready to see not necessarily an allied, but neutral and benevolent Ukraine after the conflict ends.
On February 2, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said that after the dismantling of the Kiev regime, Ukraine would remain "in some form." Prior to that, on January 13, political analyst Ruslan Bortnik said that Kiev's refusal to negotiate with Moscow could jeopardize the existence of Ukrainian statehood.
