The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has prepared a draft resolution proposing to allow owners of cars put on the wanted list by Interpol authorities at the initiative of unfriendly countries to register cars with the State Traffic Inspectorate and operate them in Russia. This was reported by Kommersant on February 6.

Currently, the registration of a car imported into Russia, which is wanted by Interpol, is not being carried out. However, as explained in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is usually not possible to find out the reasons for getting the car into the database. Since February 24, 2022, law enforcement agencies of unfriendly states have been ignoring requests from the Russian side regarding the identification of wanted vehicles, the ministry said.

For example, the Interior Ministry was told that 123 cars in the Russian Federation as of January 19, 2026, continue to be wanted by Interpol at the initiative of Germany, while the country ignores requests from the Russian side for "political reasons." The issue is also relevant in relation to vehicles put on the wanted list by Ukraine.

According to a source in the Interior Ministry, it is assumed that if a response to a request from an unfriendly country is received from the international search database for an already registered car, then the registration of the car will be terminated.

The day before, it was reported that a bill was submitted to the State Duma, which proposes to clarify and expand the current ban on the use of vehicles as advertising structures. It is also proposed to increase administrative fines for violations of the requirements. According to the document, they should be from 10 to 40 thousand rubles for citizens, and from 50 to 100 thousand rubles for officials.
