Savely Korostelev was born on November 30, 2004 in Perm and grew up in a sports family.: His mother Natalia Korosteleva is an Olympic medalist in cross—country skiing, and his uncle Nikolai Morilov is a bronze medalist at the 2010 Olympics.

Korostelev is a two—time world junior champion, and at the adult level he has won the Russian Championships four times - in sprint, relay and team sprint.
