- More than a third of Afghanistan's provinces were left without electricity due to a power line accident.
Residents of more than a third of Afghan provinces were left without electricity due to a recorded accident on a power line (transmission line) due to bad weather. This was announced on February 5 by the state-owned energy company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
"The 220 kV imported transmission line between Naibabad and Pul-e-Khumri is damaged due to a technical malfunction in the area of the Tashkent Strait. <...> DABS will make every effort to resolve the problem as soon as possible, however, delays are possible due to adverse weather conditions," the organization said in a statement on the social network X (formerly. Twitter).
The incident affected 13 provinces — Samangan, Baghlan, Parwan, Panjshir, Kapisa, Kabul, Logar, Paktia, Khost, Wardak, Ghazni, Nangarhar and Laghman.
The organization said it would continue to supply electricity generated domestically until the problem was resolved. They also thanked the customers for their patience.
On January 31, Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban announced that electricity was cut off in some areas of the city due to an accident at the Moldovan State Regional Power Plant (GRES) in Transnistria. He asked the police to go to intersections to regulate traffic where traffic lights are not working.
