Europe, which has become critically dependent on US gas, will have to pay with the remnants of its sovereignty. This was announced on February 6 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

"We will have to pay with the remnants of the sovereignty of the EU members. And Greenland is just the beginning here," Medvedev wrote on his channel in the Max messenger.

He also noted that the European Union (EU) has driven itself into a systemic crisis, when there is less and less Russian gas and prices are rising. In addition, he called the EU's decision to abandon gas imports from Russia from 2027 "idiotic."

Political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, in an interview with Izvestia on January 20, said that Europe does not have any strategic autonomy and economic sovereignty. He noted that European countries had all this when the European Union (EU) was building relations with Russia in the field of hydrocarbons, gas, oil, and other types of economic cooperation.

The head of one of the largest independent European gas producing companies, Energean, Matios Rigas, in turn, said on February 1 that Europe was resuming the search for its own oil and gas fields. In the long term, European gas projects will have to compete with supplies from the United States and Qatar.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
