- The Russian Foreign Ministry has recommended Russians to refrain from traveling to the Republic of Benin.
The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends that Russians refrain from traveling to Benin amid the deteriorating security situation. This was reported on February 5 on the agency's website.
"Local law enforcement agencies are working in an enhanced mode. Special attention is paid to the arrival and movement of foreigners on its territory," the department writes.
The ministry reports that such recommendations were made in connection with the deterioration of security in the Republic of Benin against the background of the attempted coup in December 2025. The message indicates another reason — terrorist attacks by extremists in the northern regions of the country.
On December 7, 2025, the military in the Republic of Benin announced the seizure of power. Later, the office of the President of Benin reported that the head of state was safe, and the army was regaining control of the situation.
