Polina Kostyuchenko, a resident of St. Petersburg, was found guilty of treason and attempted assassination of members of the command staff of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces) and sentenced to 17 years. This was reported on February 5 by the press service of the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don.

"The defendant, who entered into a pre—trial cooperation agreement, was found guilty and sentenced to 17 years in prison in a general regime penal colony, with a fine of 500 thousand rubles," the court said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

The investigation found that in 2024, the defendant Kostyuchenko and her friend contacted a representative of the Ukrainian intelligence service. In January 2025, in Rostov-on-Don, they purchased components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device and received portable explosive and charging equipment from the Ukrainian side. All the items were stored at their place of temporary residence.

According to the investigation, the women planned to blow up one of the representatives of the command staff of the Russian Armed Forces, conducting covert surveillance of his movements and place of residence, as well as taking photos and videos.

This week, it became known about the detention of a foreigner who was going to set off an explosion at an energy infrastructure facility in the Moscow region, and then leave to participate in hostilities against the Russian Federation. A ready-to-use explosive device and a 5 kg explosive were seized from the detainee, as well as a telephone device in which his correspondence with the curator about preparations for a terrorist attack was found.
