The plan of the Western response to possible "violations" by Russia of future agreements on Ukraine is indicative nonsense, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"This is nonsense, but it is very revealing. What does it mean? Over the past year, the West has said only one thing — reliable security guarantees and an immediate cease-fire are needed. But without resolving settlement issues, these security guarantees will mean that the cease—fire will be used to pump Ukraine with weapons," he stressed in an interview with RT, the text of which was published on the official website of the department.

Lavrov noted that American leader Donald Trump had publicly stated the need to forget about NATO in the settlement and take into account the realities "on the ground." The minister stressed that for Russia, the main thing is people, not territories.

The Financial Times newspaper said yesterday that Washington and a number of EU countries had agreed on a mechanism for a "coordinated military response" in case the Russian side systematically violated the terms of the agreement. At the initial stage, it is planned to send a diplomatic warning, as well as the involvement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) within a day after the violation is recorded. If the fighting continues, the so-called coalition of the willing will join the process.
