The Pechatniki station on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Metro Line (BKL) in Moscow is testing a fall control system on the track, which should help an unmanned train determine the freedom of the tracks. This was announced on Thursday, February 5, by the press service of the metropolitan Department of Transport.

Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for Transport and Industry, explained that the technology makes it possible to identify foreign objects on the rails, promptly respond to possible threats and warn passengers when they approach the edge of the platform, the Moscow City News agency reports.

The department clarified that video cameras, lidar and a sensor system are installed above the tracks, which scan the space and are able to record the appearance of objects on the rails within one second. The received data is transmitted via a secure channel to the train's systems and the dispatch center, Moscow 24 writes. When the signal is received, the train will stop in front of the obstacle in advance, after which the metro services will be sent to the place.

Liksutov noted that the automatic fall control system on the way is an important element for the introduction of unmanned traffic. He said that the technology was being developed by specialists from the Moscow Metro Center for Research and Development of Unmanned Vehicles, and after testing is completed, it is planned to gradually introduce it at other stations. According to him, this will make it possible to start the first trips with passengers as early as 2027. The deputy mayor added that on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, work on the development of unmanned technologies will continue, and the experience gained is planned to be transferred to the regions.
