Lukashenko urges Kazakhstan to strengthen trade ties
Belarus and Kazakhstan should not get lost from each other "in this frenzied world," and continue to strengthen trade ties that have already reached a good level. This was stated on February 5 by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament Yerlan Koshanov.
"As I always say, the basis is trade. And I must say that I once dreamed that Kazakhstan and I would come close to a $1 billion trade turnover. Today we already have, according to estimates, a billion and more. But there is a lot to strive for. We have a high—tech country," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
As the president noted, Minsk produces more than half as many goods in all directions as the domestic market consumes. The country is ready to export the rest of its products, including to Astana.
"We are a machine-building country, we have a highly developed agriculture. This is what Kazakhstan needs. I also know Kazakhstan very well since Soviet times," Lukashenko added.
As Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated on January 20, the share of friendly countries in Russia's trade turnover has reached a historic high of 86%. He said that China, Belarus, India and Kazakhstan have shown significant growth, so we can talk about a new historical record. He also noted that the transition of trade to settlements in national currencies continues.
