The import of passenger cars in the Russian Federation has decreased significantly

In January 2026, almost 47.8 thousand new and used passenger cars were imported to Russia, which turned out to be one of the lowest in the last few months. This was reported on February 5 by the analytical agency Autostat.

An even smaller volume of passenger car imports was recorded in February last year, when it amounted to about 35,000 units.

Last month, Russia imported 23.9 thousand new passenger cars (-25% by January 2025) and the same number of used ones (+23%). Geely cars predominate in the brand rating, and the Mazda CX-5 crossover turned out to be the leader among the models. The superiority of the latter is explained by the engine power of up to 160 hp, with which preferential coefficients are maintained when calculating the scrap collection. Toyota and its Corolla model are the leaders in the segment of used cars.

China accounted for 78% of new passenger car imports in January, although it even exceeded 90% a year ago. This is followed by Kyrgyzstan (13.1%) and Belarus (2.5%). As for used cars, they are most often imported from Japan (52.5%), China (31.6%) and South Korea (7.4%).

The day before, it was reported that the weighted average price of a new passenger car in Russia increased by 13% over the year and reached 3.5 million rubles. At the same time, at the beginning of 2024, the price was 3.12 million rubles, at the beginning of 2023 - 2.96 million rubles, and at the beginning of 2022 - 2.38 million rubles.
