The authorities of Latvia and Estonia are apparently "tired of sitting under the table." This was announced on February 5 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statement by Latvia and Estonia to resume negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the Russian Federation.

"It's the same idea of a "seat at the table." You can understand: I'm tired of sitting under the table," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

On the eve, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja and Estonian President Alar Karis called for the resumption of direct negotiations with Russia and proposed appointing a special envoy from the EU for these purposes. They stated that in order to be included in the negotiation process, the EU had to start contacts with Russia earlier than US President Donald Trump.

On February 4, journalist Alex Hristoforou pointed out that Estonia should remember that provocations on the border with Russia and threats to organize a blockade in the Baltic Sea could lead to a repeat of Ukraine's fate. He noted that Tallinn is trying to use anti-Russian rhetoric in order to demonstrate its importance against the background of other European countries.
